My favorite project on this here blog is to release my highly subjective and obviously unimportant thoughts on the previous year in music. Over the next couple of weeks, I will write about my favorite albums, concerts, and songs of 2019 – as well as some extra goodies for the decade that was the 2010s.
The proper paradigm to present this project in would be “my favorite” instead of “the best”, but I like how the latter sounds far better. If you read this blog or know me at all, you won’t be surprised that the lists will be rock and roll-centered, as I haven’t heard any albums by many of the biggest pop and hip-hop stars of the day. When I read the nominees for the Grammy Awards last month, I had to laugh at the fact that I have a music blog and hadn’t heard 90% of the music nominated – in fact, about a third of the artists I am not even familiar with in any way. My theory is that good music exists as much now as ever, it’s just rarely heard on the radio.
I leave you for now with links to Spotify playlists for the previous 19 years of Top Ten Albums of the Year, something I have been doing since around the time George W Bush “won” Florida. Feel free to take a stroll through time, maybe you’ll find something good or just hear some cool stuff you hadn’t in a while.
